The Ghosts of Foreign Darkness

The Ghosts of Foreign Darkness

The ghosts of foreign darkness crowd,
Haranguing me again!
Sent from o’er the deathly shroud,
From out their hellish den.

O’er the boggy wilderness,
And out the blackened cage,
Sordid hands in wan caress,
Their grasp a hellish wage.

Ghosts of foreign darkness roused,
And gravitating near,
Every sorry hope espoused,
An enervating fear…

The clacking of the hidden cogs,
The clockwork of the age,
Sending spirits from the bogs,
To haunt the earthly stage.

The damned in awful spitefulness!
The spectres of demise!
Ever seething frightfulness,
And unforgiving eyes.

The clammy coldness hitting drear,
My person cursed to hell!
Destitution so austere,
An aggravating spell.

The heaven set above is mute,
The hell below is full,
Portentous is my wry salute,
In dread perdition’s pull…
