Night Has Fallen
Night has fallen on the lake—
The frogs from out the reeds awake,
Their liveliness and sport to slake,
Such revelry to make!
With dragonflies arriving too,
Such merriment and joy in view,
The everglades a dappled blue,
The moonlight hitting through.
And I am here, in visions clear,
In water magic I revere!
Tis happy crooning that I hear!
The lake a loving sphere!
The dancing through the endless eve,
As water spirits deftly weave,
The water like a clinging sleeve,
Tis solace I perceive!
The night’s abysses render mirth!
Jocundity on merry earth!
An ecstacy of endless worth!
A providential berth!
The dive unto the silky deeps,
Amphibians in little leaps,
Inhabitants of precious keeps,
Beyond the hilly steeps.
Away today to boundless play,
Away and evermore to stay,
Tis gratitude I feel, I say,
My sorrow borne away…
