Birds of Sorrow, Sadly Weeping
Loosed from out the cages’ keeping,
Flown from downy beds of sleeping,
Birds of sorrow, sadly weeping,
Singing all their songs of pain.
Spiralling adroit together,
Weaving through the winter weather,
Breaking every earthly tether,
Showered by the precious rain.
Flown again to meet their master,
In formations getting faster,
Naming warfare and disaster,
As the demons they disdain.
Earth — descended into hexes!
With a weight the spirit vexes!
Fever pitch for both the sexes!
Naught of goodness shalt remain!
Paradise deformed and dreary!
Eyes so lachrimose and teary!
Eyes so painful red and bleary!
Mourners quaking with the strain.
Bloody tumult in the offing!
With the wicked stiffly scoffing!
Contumely and crassness coughing!
Grudges like a blackened stain.
We will fly into the gloaming!
With the ghosts of sorrow roaming,
Underneath the heaven doming,
With the moon a sickle swing.
Carrying the painful pieces,
Into light that hate releases,
Till the glow of love increases,
Till the son of man is king…
