The Prophets Crying Doom

The Prophets Crying Doom

The judgement fell in lightning force—
A panic through the skies,
A cataclysmic, bitter course,
To hellish, black demise.

The grinding wheel a dread ordeal,
A wine press giving wrath,
The thunder crash a steady peel,
A heavy aftermath.

The hounds of hell in baying call,
The dragon on the air!
The saints in a satanic thrall,
Embattled in despair.

The cockerel’s singing woebegone,
The prophets crying doom,
The ghost of Adam dead and wan,
Expiring in the gloom.

The beatitude of heaven breached,
An unavailing purge,
A fever pitch of terror reached,
A neverending dirge.

The devils singing harmonies,
To famine and decay,
Such devastated destinies,
Below the heaven’s grey.
