Stumbling in Perdition’s Lease

Stumbling In Perdition’s Lease

Stumbling in perdition’s lease,
Where solace and forgiveness cease,
As catastrophic wars increase,
In days devoid of peace.

Slopes in granite hardness cast,
The clouds in coldness ushered vast,
Without the sustenance to last,
And saving chances passed.

Tripping into listless weeks,
Such lassitude the devil wreaks,
Such paralysing loss he seeks,
Maliciousness he speaks…

“Wherein the righteousness ye need?
To go to thy Creator freed,
Thy person comes from Adam’s seed!
Accursedness indeed!

Descend the precipice of doom!
Into the noisome nether gloom!
Thy aggravation to resume!
Thy patience to consume!

Holiness in banished place,
Revisions of your old disgrace,
And spitefulness upon thy face,
Composure I’ll erase!

Never unto Eden’s shore!
The paradise ye had before,
Ebullience in endless score,
Jehovah at the door.

But in a bleakness ever set,
Tis brotherhood you’ll soon forget,
Damnation breaking in a sweat,
Encased in Sheol’s net!

Bruises on thy flapping feet!
And foulness from the poisoned peat,
And curses falling indiscreet,
Insanity to meet!

O’er the rocks and down the slope,
Without the pluck or means to cope,
Devoid of heaven’s proffered hope,
In mawkishness to mope!

In the desert, in the dark,
My ugliness to dim thy spark!
Thy devastation given stark,
Without a saving ark…”
