Requiescat In Pace

Requiescat In Pace

Woe upon the mournful crew,
The winds awash with rain,
Heralding the man they knew,
And overcome with pain.

Mist atop the chapel roof,
The steeple reaching true,
Birds upon the branch aloof,
And misery in view.

Graves in desolation spread,
Accursedness throughout,
All the spirits of the dead,
With tragedies to shout.

Trees in silhouetted form,
And angels cast in stone,
Underneath the sombre storm,
Despondent to the bone.

All the congregation stand,
Before the sullen priest,
Teary on tormented land,
To honour the deceased.

Out the lowly dust ye came!
Advancing into life,
Cheeriness to mark thy name,
And gracious to thy wife.

Upright in thy path to God,
And goodly to the last,
Now delivered to the sod,
Unto forever passed!

Lower down the coffin’s heft!
Unto the earth below,
Grateful kith and kin bereft,
And faces blanched as snow.

Sing thy eulogies aloud!
To reverence the dead,
With thy gladness showing proud,
For one to dreaming fled.

Lux perpetua, my son!
Proceeding unto Christ,
With salvation duly won,
By what He sacrificed…
