A Hollow Darkness
The sea and sky and forest did not move,
And silence filled the firmament above,
The angels with an eagerness to prove,
The sanctity and strength of holy love.
Profundity in motionless expanse,
Solemnity in every precious star,
The glittered heaven’s enigmatic dance,
The Son of God in witness from afar.
The deserts lying sleeping in the cold,
The dreaminess and languor of the moon,
The deities of night in loving hold,
Carrying creation in a swoon.
Then, the brimming sweetness of the morn,
Advancing from the east in steady gait,
From badgers to the unassuming fawn,
Everything in reverential wait.
Daylight in procession marching in,
Solar emanations in appeal,
Exaltation gathering within,
Gladness in the paradisic wheel.
Gardens set in tapestries of vine,
Captivating dainties in the field,
Colours hung magnificently fine,
Man and beast in celebration healed.
But, a hollow darkness to appear,
Eagerness to shake the place of God,
Sacrifices offered black and drear,
Blood from off the altar on the sod.
Vitriol against the merry host,
Spitefulness to wreck the spirit’s core,
Rage against the loving holy ghost,
Enemies from sordid Sheol’s shore.
Revelation’s dragon on the scene!
Satan and his tongue of fetid lies,
Darkness and perversion spread obscene,
Holocausts appearing in the skies.
Destitution galvanised in all,
Enervation gripping at the soul,
Satan and his paralysing thrall,
Sin and death in dangerous control.
Seas aboil in hotness and chagrin,
Mournfulness to grieve the very best,
Luridness and weariness within,
Everything by whorishness caressed.
Darkness to replace the holy seal,
Sordidness to slake the blemished soul,
Jesus with a lustreless appeal,
Perdition for a neverending hole…
