The Sabbath Torches
The sabbath resplendent—
The witches surround,
A priestly attendant,
And snakes on the ground,
Mars in the heavens ascendant,
And rapturous lore to propound…
The altar unmoving,
The sacrifice slain,
The demons approving,
With God in disdain,
Satan in majesty proving,
Naught of salvation remain.
The dances horrendous,
The wine in a flow,
The torches tremendous,
A luminous glow,
Bonfires rising stupendous,
With sprites of the aether in tow.
Gloating infernal,
In destitute seas,
The wicked eternal,
And sick as you please,
Lost in a madness fraternal,
And conjuring devils with ease.
Satan prestigious,
The fallen one praised,
A bent irreligious,
And holiness dazed,
Sacrifice fervour prodigious,
So willfully, frightfully crazed…
