Nights in Sweet Procession
Nights in sweet procession flowing,
Under jack-o’-lanterns glowing,
Such a glut of joy bestowing,
Under slick October skies.
All the ghosts of Adam thronging,
In the devil’s wry belonging,
All the season’s bliss prolonging,
Bright elation at our eyes!
Under hidden starlight walking,
Fancy free and ever talking,
Through the cobbled laneway stalking,
Singing odes in sweet reprise.
Called unto a heady season,
Lost within a sweet unreason,
Abstinence the height of treason!
Costumes in abysmal guise.
Effervescent festive lightness,
Under luscious lunar brightness,
Black the hats in gripping tightness,
As the candle slowly dies.
Cats upon the fences pacing,
Tails aloft, in mischief chasing,
All the wreck of time erasing,
Neverland the heart espies!
Ghosts upon the aethers baying,
With the happy banjo playing,
Merry incantations saying,
As the witches coven flies.
Frogs upon the grasses hopping,
With the fanfare never stopping,
Flags upon the masthead flopping,
As the pyrotechnics rise.
Ancestors of old arriving,
For communion ever striving,
In Dianna’s magic thriving,
On the road where Bacchus lies.
Nights in sweet procession moving,
With our levity improving,
All the hidden sprites approving,
Energy that none denies…
