Visions From the Dark
O, ecstasy of dreaming where I stand—
Visions from the dark abyss’s reach,
Knowledge of the firmament to teach,
Garnered from a Neolithic land.
Birds and beasts from out the foreign dark,
Prophets speaking portent of the end,
God with pyrotechnic storms to send,
Mornings with a providential spark.
Nephilim carousing in the wild,
Men and women taken to the brink,
Kraken from the stormy ocean sink,
Paradise in cataclysms styled.
Angels bright as revelation’s hour,
Devils with a sordidness sublime,
All the mad creation lost in time,
Deserts to the ornamental flower.
God pronouncing floods upon the land,
Tempests raging with an awesome force,
Fallenness engendering remorse,
Powers of the cross in sweet command.
Ecstacies of holiness and peace,
Forces of decay in epic weight,
Woven in a death-defying fate,
Moving to a rapturous release.
Fractures in the firmament above,
Lightning with an overwhelming wrath,
All the brazen battle’s aftermath,
All the end result of banished love.
Seas awash with jetsam from the wrecks,
Forests burning in the rosy haze,
Drugs to put the spirit in a daze,
Sorcerers to cast the clinging hex.
Bibles to announce the sacrifice,
Offerings to demons down below,
Purity as winsome as the snow,
Deviltry imagined in a trice.
I can see the visions from the dark!
All the carousel of worldly strife!
All the vast cacophony of life,
All the rushing tempest hitting stark…
