The Moon in Her Night Palace
I say, my beloved, my precious one, my confidante in all things, the moon has chosen a palace for her dwelling, and she climbs anon to its height, to reign in silvery bliss over the estuary and over the opalescent sea in which we ride, in which we hide, in which we peruse the cool evening in amorous languor, with the hypnotic wavelets lapping at our place and the shadows whispering their secrets. Hast thou any higher aspiration than to worship from afar, besotted with her pulchritude and high nobility? She is the queen to whom we should affirm our fealty and good will. She is quite flawless. Protecting her and esteeming her with our hearts’ fullness should be an enterprise that brings levity and prodigious cheer. Beguilement in her captivating stare is my one desire!
I say, my sweet lover, saccharin as toffee and warmer than the spring tide, with mellow eyes and wisdom in surfeit, the moon has selected a palace for her keeping, a matchless cathedral, a chapel adorned in spectacular light, a goodly and unconquerable castle built of planetary luminosity, like a great and exalted tomb for disembodied kings. Her taste is superlative. Her inclinations are impeccable. Only she is composed of a loveliness perfect enough to inhabit that high estate! Only she has the winsomeness of spirit enchanting enough to recline in poise on that high throne and dwell indefinitely, reigning for eternity in grace and love.
I say, my devoted friend, my accomplice in fate, my companion on the roads of unknown fortune, the moon is apt to speak her mind and share the meditations of her bosom. From her throne of ineffable light and mystic shadows she would utter her will and smile upon our doting forms. Tis she who possesses such pure magnanimity and fullness of charity as to give us a picture of her spotless soul and elucidate the holy tenor of her light, which is effusive as it is grand. Listen with me to her wild oration, to her prophetic might! By the grandiosity of her thoughts alone we should lift out of this very bark and rise as emancipated ghosts, levitating into the sky to be with her for all time, sailing under her blissful watch like sprites of Edenic innocence…
