St. Francis in Triumphal Light

St Francis in Triumphal Light

St Francis in triumphal light,
In beatitude he stands,
A holy berth,
Upon the earth,
Creation’s mirth,
Across the firth,
Such ardour he commands.

The fishes in the boundless blue,
The eels upon the wave,
The swaying sea,
The otter’s glee,
The holy tree,
In wide esprit,
Ebullience so brave.

The salt upon the breezy air,
The crested waves in white,
The bobbing whale,
The fish’s scale,
The seagulls pale,
The flapping sail,
Communion in delight.

The pelicans upon the wing,
The albatross in song,
The dolphin’s click,
The stingers’ prick,
The ocean slick,
The seagulls thick,
A reverential throng.

The sunlight in immensity,
The colours spreading gold,
The joy profound,
As cheers resound,
This awesome ground,
Can bliss expound,
Creation’s grinning fold.

The stars are wheeling overhead,
The clouds in brilliance thrown,
His holy call,
A potent thrall,
A golden shawl,
Enfolding all,
With sea winds deftly blown.

Fecundity in awesome span,
Magnificent and pure,
Creation’s way,
Unfettered play,
This gifted day,
In merry May,
With jovial allure.
