There Goes the River

There Goes the River

There goes the river—
Ebullient in her language of brightness,
Praising everything,
Extending warmth and good will,
In sweet, undulating gestures,
and a limitless poetry of sound.
Her manner is flirtatious,
Evanescent and spry,
Given to impromptu dalliance.
Heaven, doting, disperses blessings,
In lavish generosity,
With displays of ineffable fondness,
Sending sunlight and universal peace,
In surreal and hypnotic luminosity,
While the earth and her inhabitants,
Dream away in merry abandon…
The afternoon languor is punctuated by birdsong,
With high pitched voices from the trees, sweet and shrill,
Spinebills and Holland Honeyeaters
Gray Teals and Eurasian Coots,
Echoing a harmony of enthusiasm,
In spirited proclamation…
