Burning Monuments
Conflagrations light the city,
Monuments a fiery blaze,
Devastation, rousing pity,
For this woeful end of days.
Churches smoky in the twilight,
Ash arising to the air,
Sulphurous the fuming midnight,
Sweeping visions of despair.
Buildings torched and razed to rubble,
Ramparts slumping in the gloom,
Everlasting, ageless trouble,
Heady smoke a skyward plume.
Hearken to the guns in gusto,
Brazen through the smoky haze,
A call to arms ignites the shadow,
Soldiers in a vicious craze.
Waterways with wreckage streaming,
Jetsam parts of things that were,
With demonic torches beaming,
Every ghoulish thing astir.
Mark the city skyline wretching,
All the tumult of the day,
Into dark perdition stretching,
As our hope is borne away.
Mark the trembling in the offing,
Aethers sore awash with pain,
Lucifer in madness scoffing,
At this bright Bermuda drain.
See the spectres borne of Sheol,
Loosed upon the city streets,
Out from their forsaken gaol,
Dark armadas borne in fleets.
Seeking naught but wry destruction,
Bringing naught but wanton rage,
At their master’s shrill instruction,
Loosing hell upon the stage.
Futures thrown into derision,
Under a satanic thrall,
Weapons guided with precision,
Loud the yell and stark the call.
Ages lurching into sorrow,
Falling by the curse’s might,
Only fever marks tomorrow,
With this cataclysmic sight.
