Red As

Red As

Red as the glow in the westerly sky,
Red as the breast of the robin on high,
Red as the leaves that the autumn displays,
Red as the sun dazzled haze.

Red as the saccharine lips of my love,
Red as the planet of Mars up above,
Red as the tint of the church window pane,
Red as the coral’s bright stain.

Red as the ruby or jasper that shines,
Red as the flow of the sweet berry wines,
Red as the sign on the tavern I use,
Red as kaleidoscope hues.

Red as the spirits of excess and joy,
Red as the cheeks of my sprightly young boy,
Red as the shawl of my lover and wife,
Red as the blood giving life…
