Promises of Cupid’s Touch
Unto my gallant man I fondly clutch,
Under twilight serenading soft,
Clouds in opalescent pink aloft,
Promises of gleeful cupid’s touch!
Unity in empyrean love!
Standing in the quietude of eve,
Birds upon the wing adroitly weave,
Through the gloaming firmament above.
Boston ivy hung in jasper hue,
Spilling in a fantasy of red,
O’er the wall magnificently spread,
All the flowers flaming in my view.
Picture perfect daydreams do awake—
Amorousness underneath the moon,
Fates to bring enchantment in a swoon,
All my inhibitions apt to slake.
Flowers to announce the summer’s throng,
Lovers twain in gladness on the green,
Winds of fate — conspirators unseen,
Buoying us and coaxing us along.
Ruddy cheeks and joyousness to share,
Dinners by the hearth in smoky blaze,
Garrulous and gallant in our days,
Always with a fortitude to wear.
Even through the winter and the storm,
Even in the grip of very hell,
Love that would our hopelessness dispel,
Passion and affection brimming warm.
Revelry in company we keep,
Readiness to sing in holy mirth,
Champions of God upon the earth,
Embracing in devotion as we sleep.
Even unto marriage in the end,
Reverent and solemn by a kiss!
Into all the rhyme of wedded bliss,
In a holy fervency to wend.
Children sporting gleeful by the lake,
Witnessing the summers debonair,
With a keen ebullience to share,
Happiness to meet them as they wake.
Adventuring within the wooded grove,
Building wendy houses at the brook,
Satisfaction stated in a look,
O’er the fen and o’er the stile to rove.
I can picture all of it within,
Standing here, enamoured of the night,
With such hope and blessedness in sight,
All of life’s bravado in a spin…
