The Mad, Tenebrous Night
Distended to a horrid guise,
and stricken in decay,
Distorted by the devil’s lies,
while colours flit away—
Ungainliness in dread reprise,
The breathing out of heavy sighs,
Away from God my spirit shies,
As daylight sadly dies…
I bury all the love within,
and look to barren trees,
Unsettled by the earthly din,
. and sunken to my knees—
My senses a satanic spin,
Completely compromised by sin,
Estranged from all my kith and kin,
My lips a cretin’s grin…
I look upon the aeons past,
To dreams I had before,
Unholy places spreading vast,
A soporific shore—
Deliberating if I’ll last,
Again into the chasm cast,
The cup of torment my repast,
The wrath that Jesus hast…
The former aspect of my soul;
A mirror shining true,
Relinquished to a cursed control,
And banished now from view—
The ageless aeons hitting droll,
Insanity the devil’s goal,
The storms from out an occult shoal,
The pit’s unhappy hole…
I conjure visions from the house,
Wherein I fondly grew,
My father with his happy spouse,
And merriment in view,
But now a vermin, like the louse!
As bowls of wrath from heaven douse,
My form a fleetly fleeing mouse,
As private as the grouse…
I walk away into the dark,
The mad, tenebrous night,
The light of heaven given stark,
The welkin maw in sight—
Reviewing all the visions drear,
The godless ages spreading clear,
Aggrieved by paralytic fear,
The moonlight hitting shear…
