Desolation’s Lease
Lost in desolation’s setting,
All the will to fight forgetting,
Devastation so upsetting,
Witnessing the pallid morn.
Clouds to cloak the sun’s arriving,
Famine where there should be thriving,
Into deeper darkness driving,
Life in such derisive scorn.
Mark the long horizon’s bleakness!
As I witness in my weakness,
Cowering in very meekness,
All my spirit stripped and worn.
Naught of colour speaks this morning,
Naught of brightness in the dawning,
All the signs a woeful warning,
Into dark perdition torn.
Shadows on the the building lapping,
Old, accustomed gladness sapping,
Demons in the darkness clapping,
Into fetid madness born.
Silence in an endless season,
Contemplating man’s unreason,
Jesus holding us in teason,
As I stare upon the dawn.
All the ages lost forever!
In the lonely never never,
Solitude I can’t dissever,
In a fortress so forlorn.
Ochre on the branches dismal,
Vanquished ever, cataclysmal,
Hell triumphant and abysmal,
Once again in pieces sawn…
