Dusk Upon the River

Dusk Upon the River

Dusk upon the river dancing,
Silver through the shadows glancing,
With the twilight red entrancing,
Bright above the lonely town.

Grassy flats in summer’s keeping,
Trees within the silence weeping,
Leaves upon the breezes leaping,
Under heaven’s silky down.

Rivers dark with tannins tinted,
Paradise serenely minted,
God’s prophetic goodness hinted,
In the peace from heaven flown.

Waterways in gladness flowing,
Into seas and night’s unknowing,
Ecstasy and bliss bestowing,
Like an undulating gown.

Recollections keen arising,
Colours soft and energising,
Pallettes of the summer prizing,
Heat to make the senses drown.

I have spent such laughter merry,
From these lips in painted cherry,
Plucking out the gorgeous berry,
Yellow daisies for a crown…
