Black Shadows
The moon in misty loneliness,
The aethers ashen grey,
As winter slows,
The melting snows,
In fulsome flows,
And undertows,
See landscapes swept away.
The chasm darkness endless deep,
Horizons chiseled dark,
The bitterns call,
In moonlit thrall,
A ghostly shawl,
Enshrouding all,
Their voices lost and stark.
The fence line in desuetude,
The struts and beams decayed,
Arrayed austere,
From yesteryear,
The aspect drear,
The curses clear,
Damnation undelayed.
The water is reflecting soft,
To greet the lunar queen,
The shimmers dance,
In sweet romance,
A midnight glance,
Brings hope perchance,
In darkness spread obscene.
Beyond the night the watchmen sit,
In thrones above the sea,
Presiding wise,
In cheerless skies,
Their darksome guise,
And silent cries,
A baleful ministry.
The breakers speak in solitude,
To titans housed above,
A whispered chant,
A stormy rant,
As clouds enchant,
Preponderant,
The tides bereft of love.
And as I watch the aeons go,
To rest in tombs of pain,
I speak a prayer,
To crystal air,
Such love to share,
But slow despair,
Sees naught of Christ remain…
