Sketches of Indignity
Like sketches of indignity,
When loosed from out the cage,
The gruesome wings,
The beak that stings,
Ungodly things,
On puppet strings,
Pervertedness our wage.
The lurid lamplight through the air,
The magic in the stars,
The awful weight,
From Sheol’s gate,
To enervate,
And extirpate,
The fury like of Mars.
The beastly and iniquitous,
Emblazoned in the lore,
Degrading, wild,
By Satan styled,
Bereft and riled,
Bereaved, defiled,
Damnation as the score.
The weirdness of the underworld,
Theatrically displayed,
The shapes of lust,
Of raw disgust,
Of wry distrust,
The startled bust,
So ghoulish and dismayed.
The elements upon the air,
Fantastical and dark,
The skin chagrined,
By frosty wind,
By raging pinned,
Discomfort grinned,
The enervation stark.
An exponential loneliness,
An emptiness and woe,
The circus troop,
Upon its loop,
As flowers droop,
As vultures swoop,
Where angels fear to go.
The destitution manifold,
The spell prodigious mean,
A darksome maze,
Defines our days,
An empty craze,
As Satan stays,
Unleashing hells unseen.
