A Mouse’s Prayer

A Mouse’s Prayer

Although the danger comes for me,
From out the darksome skies,
The talons in alacrity,
And black, demonic eyes—
I will render naught of fear,
But hold to hopes of freedom dear,
My inner strength a booming cheer,
A puissance in reprise.

Although the sharpened claws would kill,
And slay my body dead,
Deployed with such egregious skill,
A guillotine of dread—
I will brace against the pain,
Through frightful storm and galling rain,
Though blinding tumult grieve my brain,
I’ll keep a level head.

Although the predators of doom,
Would rend my limbs to eat,
Pursuing me through hellish gloom,
With weapons swinging fleet—
I will keep my wits alive,
In every second bound to strive,
For all the brave, tenacious drive,
To saving gods entreat.

Although destruction seems at hand,
By enemies and foe,
Their brazen animosity,
A litany of woe—
I will battle undeterred,
With all my vision lost or blurred,
My fortune under God inferred,
To brighter skies I go.
