The Scholar on the Landscape

The Scholar on the Landscape

Languidly perusing,
Through the greenery in sun,
His measured pace,
Through airy space,
His stalwart face,
With easy grace,
So blithe in rays that stun.

Beyond the shining valley,
Climb the cyprus and the birch,
Their giant size,
Beguiles the eyes,
In joy they rise,
The day their prize,
The stratosphere their church.

The animals are lively,
And in gusto on the glade,
The shama’s call,
The panda’s bawl,
The koi that crawl,
The waterfall,
Enraptured, unafraid.

The scholar writes a poem,
By the banks which call him o’er,
He enters in,
The hazy din,
The fish like kin,
As thoughts begin,
His words flow in a shower…

It is majesty unbidden,
Which I find within this realm,
The sun and moon,
In endless swoon,
Their happy tune,
As crickets croon,
My heart in overwhelm!

I survey spotless water,
And the silver spreading clean,
I praise the bliss,
Of heaven’s kiss,
The wide abyss,
My fleur-de-lis,
Tis godhead wearing green!
