Bluebird Poised in Moonshine Soft
Bluebird — poised in moonshine soft,
And singing out thy heart,
Serenading lunar beams,
In cyan feathers smart!
A hidden nest in bamboo stored,
Thy eggs so precious smooth,
Thy chicks awaken, housed in sticks,
Thy melody dost soothe!
Berries bright as earrings,
Hung from flower covered twigs,
Grassy tufts to warm thy bed,
Brought back in little sprigs.
Soaring long into the air—
A paradise in white,
Snow flakes gliding gently down,
To titillate thy sight.
The forests of Japan are yours!
A gift of wide expanse!
Such perfect animation,
Marks your flight — a dainty dance.
Through the shadows spanning long,
And through the nighttime dark,
Then back again unto your nest,
Though caping blackness stark.
Always gleeful, always gay,
Begrudging no bad weather,
Loving kindness styl’d bright,
As bright as thy blue feather.
Happiness, the abstract noun,
They pledge unto thy name,
“Bluebird of happiness” they say,
Your merry heart my flame!
