Blue As
Blue as the deeps of the sky overhead,
Blue as the ocean in majesty spread,
Blue as delphinium over the grass,
Blue as the cobalt in glass.
Blue as the streak on the wing of the wren,
Blue as forget-me-nots bright on the glen,
Blue as the hue of the mountains afar,
Blue as the light-speaking star.
Blue as the salvia growing profuse,
Blue as the leaves of American spruce,
Blue as the opal that shines in the rock,
Blue as the boats on the dock.
Blue as the ring of the octopus slow,
Blue as the jellyfish swimming below,
Blue as the paint in the pallette for art,
Blue as the rain hitting smart.
Blue as the eyes of the lover I hold,
Blue as the azurite gem set in gold,
Blue as the waterfall dowered in light,
Blue as obsidian night.
Blue as confectionery chewy and tart,
Blue as depression afflicting my heart,
Blue as the artworks of Egypt so fine,
Blue as the soft columbine.
Blue as the swirl in the marble I keep,
Blue as the fish that I pull from the deep,
Blue as the lupin that grow on my farm,
Blue as the rim of my charm.
Blue as the lake sleeping under the moon,
Blue as the jay in vociferous croon,
Blue as the saxophone melody played,
Blue as the squill in the glade.
