Beneath the Doming Stars
Here I pledge my parting kiss,
With sentiments so strong,
Out unto to the deep abyss—
Through valleys snaking long.
Aye, thy journey through the wild,
Beneath the doming stars,
Planets glinting, softly styled,
The amber dot of Mars.
Fondness even like a drug—
So heady strong this love!
Poured from Aphrodite’s jug,
Oh precious, winsome dove!
By the puissant holy cross,
Upon thy robes and neck,
Take thy strength and march across,
The desert’s starry deck.
I will trust my God on high,
To keep thee perfect sure,
Might and power in His eye,
And goodness His allure.
Go, while sparrows playeth meek,
The beasts in peaceful hush,
The sea a dark reflective streak,
My cheeks in rosy blush.
Aye, my dear, I thank thee true,
Thy love in gushing words!
With the welkin astral blue,
Atop the sleeping herds.
I will write thee from the fort,
When I have made the pass,
By thy love so fondly bought,
From solitude’s morass.
With my bosom quaking sore,
Pray take thy cross and go—
Love that won’t allow thy thirst!
Depart by moonlight glow!
