Palaces of Languid Night

Palaces of Languid Night

Palaces of languid night,
Bedecked in starry robes,
Moonlit charms spread o’er the farms,
Adoring palms with frondy arms—
To praise the heaven’s globes.

Palaces of crystal glass,
The draperies so clear,
Banished sun and midnight won!
The daylight done and bliss begun,
It’s arching Nuit, my dear!

Palaces of silent depths—
The moon’s imperfect sphere,
The planets rise in coloured dyes,
The cosmic guise a sweet surprise,
The cloudy curtains clear.

Palaces for elder gods!
That speak in silent lore,
The echoed smiles in Eldritch styles,
The silken miles and timeless whiles,
That cherubs so adore.

Palaces to walk in peace,
When hell is raging long,
The boulevards that Michael guards,
The endless yards in starry shards,
Beatific midnight song…
