Hanging Blackly

Hanging Blackly

(flower)

Hanging blackly,
Petals slackly,
Droop in downward poise,
Withered badly,
Lost so sadly,
Death to drown the noise.

Gay romances,
Languid stances—
Joy that marked my prime
Sunny glances,
Daylight dances;
Quashed by greedy time!

Leaves are shrinking,
Head is sinking,
Mourning blights my frame,
My only inkling—
Rain drop drinking,
Life a dwindling flame.

Thorns and nettles!
Pollen settles,
On my weary stems,
Dew drop gems,
My diadems,
Though death my person hems.

(maid)

Sitting lonely,
Tis me only,
Prostrate on the field,
Thinking mellow,
Straw so yellow,
Endless sky revealed.

Pensive always,
In these hallways,
Breath my only rhyme,
Senses slaked,
My awe awaked,
I ruminate on time…

Roads unbidden,
Tumult hidden,
Stricken low to loss,
Fates unkind,
And weeping blind,
To give a wat’ry gloss.

In the darkness,
Silent starkness,
Gives me space to breathe—
My parasol,
From men’s control,
And feelings that do seethe.
