A Water Baptism
Honshu in deluge,
With mystical rains,
Feathers for refuge,
From heaven’s refrains—
Loud and prodigiously heavy, a tempest the sky God ordains.
The heron is walking,
A pacing so slow,
Interpidly stalking,
As summer winds blow,
Poised, intermittently gawking, there in the fabulous flow.
Water triumphant,
A magical stream,
The heavens abundant,
The downpour extreme,
The street is a baptismal altar — this church like a place from a dream.
Holy communion,
The rain jumping high,
A sensuous union,
With thunder the cry,
Leaves of bamboo in profusion, shining with drips from the sky.
