Satanic Magic

Satanic Magic

Satanic magic infused in the sea—
Boisterous beings of hell roaming free,
Dragons in curving and swerving dismay,
Loosed on this time — the last day.

Satanic reverie vacant of Christ,
Objects disturbed by the mad poltergeist,
Graves coughing corpses that spring from the earth,
Filled with a terrible mirth.

Down at the grotto the whaler’s shed stands,
Swamped with the legions of mystical lands,
Perilous conjurings raised from the ground,
Drums pumping raucous in sound.

Out on the estuary sailors in swoon,
Under the sweltering Pacific noon,
Meeting leviathans lost in the wild,
Angry, perniciously riled.

Islands of turtles that grew pointed wings,
Sailing away as the hippogriff sings,
Feasting on tumult and blood from the cup,
It’s with the devil we sup!

Painted in offal, in nakedness too,
All of the hell we created in view—
Flashing horizons of whirling demise,
Glutted, with tears in our eyes.
