We Dream Forever Lost
Clandestine in forest shade,
Devoid of light, a dingy glade,
The trees bedecked in mossy damp,
I linger long within my camp.
The flowers sing in chorus chant,
A rhyme produced by every plant,
We know the rhythm of this wood,
The sod where ancient Adam stood.
We see through time lost tracts of hell,
We’re cursed and chained within a spell,
The dankness redolent with fear,
A binding hex, a fate austere.
For we can only gasp and wheeze,
The clammy air devoid of breeze,
The creatures of the night quite mad,
A howling to the landscape sad.
The moon! The gibbous moon displayed!
In patent horror and afraid,
To show creation’s mangled shape,
The mouths of many hang agape.
The berries marked by poison tang,
The wolf pack run — a fiersome gang,
With breath in steamy, smoky blast,
As on they gallop, racing past.
On we dream, forever lost,
With spectral vision, pain embossed,
Blood displayed at sacrifice,
The curse is on us, cold as ice.
