Under the Lebanese Trees
Brave camaraderie, sprightly and sweet,
Pheasants that sing with a tremolo tweet,
Fruit cornucopia under the hedge,
Next to the cyprus and sedge.
Palaces formed out of bushes and twigs,
Here is a banquet of berries and figs,
Dappled the feathers that shimmer and shine,
Dressed so remarkable fine.
Birds of a feather in friendliness bound,
Picking the morsels spread o’er the ground,
Relishing company — infinite cheer,
Warming this winter austere.
Bodily happiness, laughter within,
Drowning the woes of the world — such a din!
Wandering into a kinship that frees,
Under the Lebanese trees.
