A Lover’s Petition

A Lover’s Petition

Step with me into the softest streams;
Gracious water from the mountain pass,
Glorious with paradisic beams,
Livening the flowing mirror glass.

Walk with me in nighttime forest shade,
Covered o’er by canopies of fir,
Roving, two as one, upon the glade,
Blessed by gods that whisper as we stir.

Lie with me upon the mossy ground,
Two fond ghosts in earthly reverie,
Only marking breathing as the sound,
Touched within by nature’s ministry.

Sing with me unto the winsome sky,
Bathed in purple moonbeams as we rest,
Hold me as I chant a lullaby,
With your form upon my bosom pressed.
