A Kingdom of Green
A wreath made of shells by a mermaid of green,
In shadowy waters, with witnesses keen,
Hangs on the wall in the hall of the king,
As undines and fishes in choruses sing.
Odes to the whales in the halls of the deep,
Songs to the shrimp as they scuttle and leap,
Harmonic melodies raised in the kelp,
Summoning sharks for some baritone help.
Building a symphony, under the waves,
Merrily sounding in coral-lit caves,
Spirits of sea-witches enter the craze,
Borne in the bodies of black manta rays.
Bubbles find daylight in rainbow tint shine,
Dancers a swaying in mansions of brine,
Manifold forces of heaven imbued,
Into this sprightly and talented brood.
Triton is beaming in pride at the scene,
Riding on dolphins in pirouettes keen,
Hailing the day he was born with a smile,
Bold in the currents that warm him awhile.
The centrepiece object of worship is clear,
A finely made wreath prompting chatter and cheer,
Elation abounding in mermaid delight,
Songs rising up to the breakers of white…
