In Autumn’s Keep

In Autumn’s Keep

The lust of autumn — written red,
The auburn leaves a loving ode made plain,
Such passion lights the path we tread,
The tinted leaf a stained glass window pane.

Our love is blazing as this fire—
The season’s brightness speaks the bliss we know,
Na’er shall our earnestness expire,
Our souls enraptured with a kindred glow.

The stream is glassy dark and loud,
Chanting sibilants and whispered lore,
In autumn’s gush so winsome proud,
I confess — tis thee I do adore!

The way we talk is soft and low,
Two lovers brimming with a silent prize,
Such comfort dost your hand bestow,
As longingly I scan your hazel eyes.

The sun is singing high above,
A radiant magnificence to share,
The leaves present their treasure trove,
In shining yellow gold beyond compare.

I hold you softly as you stand,
Upon the russet ground, your presence strong,
A man of feeling and command,
My heart enlivened knows a soaring song.

The night is coming, this we sense,
And dusky arms will lull this day to sleep,
It’s in this wonderland so dense,
I give my heart to you, in autumn’s keep.
