In Autumn Finery

In Autumn Finery

Who sends bright rays in swathes of flowing gold?
Like a raiment donning regent frame,
Laced in clouds of pink and white so bold,
Stately garb composed of autumn flame!

God on high is lavish in His gift—
As I wander by the glassy lake,
Generosity that knows no thrift,
All my wonder and my joy to slake!

What bright dreams will visit me tonight?
As my spirit nurtures this slow day,
Resurrected glimpses of delight,
Chasing me upon my dreamy way.

Memories of flower beds in bloom?
Jewels of colour merry in the sun.
Peacocks pompous in their fanning plume?
Silver webs by spiders deftly spun?

Drops of water thrown by happy fish?
Joyous scents upon the autumn air?
Yearning for my love in earnest wish?
Fingers running through his silky hair.

I will dream in peace within my room,
Set in lofty castle turrets tall,
Like a babe within the timeless womb,
Satisfied and reverent withal.

Dreaming into lands of spilling light,
Cameraderie with spirits soft,
Moon and stars presiding through the night,
As I dream my dreams in stone aloft.
