Leaps and Bounds
Across the boulder, o’er the stile,
In wanderlust I caper,
Swift through every chasing mile,
I disappear like vapour.
Leaping from the riverbank,
To swim the bubbling river,
Off the bending springboard plank,
And through the waves I slither.
Down the gully rock by night,
And to the valley meadow,
Grinning broad in pure delight,
With racing legs akimbo.
Through the yellow dotted field,
With buttercups in flower,
Unto despair I never yield,
But plunge with merry power.
Deep into the forest glen,
With shadows gently lapping,
Heeding now the happy wren,
As down I slump to napping.
Then I race apace again,
Adventuring forever,
Cross the farmer’s noisy den,
Into the never never…
Lost horizons beckon me,
The ghostly haze enticing,
To the wondrous wind blown sea,
Where ships plunge ever slicing.
To the island decked with trees,
Into the forest thicket,
Flowerbeds with dancing bees,
And vines upon the picket.
To the mountain crest I chase,
And sit upon the ground,
Infinity before my face,
And windy breath the sound.
I can never stop to think,
What terrors shape the truth,
Rage inside as dark as ink,
To blot away my youth.
I will choose the rolling sea,
To look upon for solace,
Waves as nature’s ministry,
Her gentle message flawless.
Here, where earth and sky commune,
I tarry in elation,
Nature’s way a happy boon,
To soothe my perturbation.
Racing on with athlete zest,
Impressive in my journey,
Paradise within my chest,
On hidden pastures ferny.
I will die upon the green,
The arbors as my mourners,
Borne away by ghosts unseen,
To darksome occult corners…
