I am Providence

I am Providence

So bloody and earnest,
That death on the cross,
A true love that burnest,
Appearing as loss,
A sacrifice bold and astounding, in history’s destitute dross.

I felt the sure sorrow,
It dawned on me there,
The King of tomorrow,
With thorns in His hair,
Indicted for willful sedition, and hung on a cross in the air.

The keeper of Zion
Bereft under sky,
The Star of Orion,
Aloft by and by,
Bringing a witnessing presence, as Christ spoke His fearful last cry.

The heaven in mourning,
With blood on the ground,
The purple light dawning,
In death He was crowned,
Gethsemane’s anguish made patent, with relatives crowding around.

A higher truth drew Him;
I knew it inside,
Salvation, like Purim,
To set a new tide,
For I was the thief right beside Him, on Calvary hilly and wide.

The plazas of consciousness,
Sculpted anew,
Such deviant wantonness,
Cast out of view—
By bravery’s brilliant new token, held up to the heavenly blue.

In that moment stupendous,
No mortal man knew,
What power horrendous,
Was thereby run through,
With manifold forces of evil, slain by a sword swinging true.

Then dragged to the darkness,
And sealed with a stone,
In destitute starkness,
And lying alone,
The king of the heavens didst tarry, then flew to His paradise throne.

Ezikiel’s skeleton,
Breathed into life,
Where once a lost denizen,
Panicked in strife,
Largesse in the gift salvation, our Christ formed His church for a wife…
