Eulogy for a Day
The angel clouds stretch wispy hands,
Unto the dying sun,
Across the span of shadow lands,
In flower magic spun.
The pine tree silhouettes in ranks,
Stand intricate and proud,
Their sustenance from river banks,
Below a nettle shroud.
The mellow sun in lapping light,
Extending to mine eye,
The insects buzzing in delight—
A solar lullaby.
The clematis and lilac spread,
Across the ground in cheer,
The sun bleeds orange, nearly dead,
In night’s unknown frontier.
I stand in mournful reverence—
This day I knew in bliss!
But now, a doleful severance,
With night a deathly kiss.
Unto the siren call of dark,
The sun within his tomb,
The stars attend the moon’s bright arc,
Above the cloaking gloom.
I pray unto the future day,
Birthed from this bloody death,
Another chance to laugh and play,
With precious human breath…
