Under Cloaking Shadows Cast

Under Cloaking Shadows Cast

Cold and stony ruins tumbling,
Neath a sailing moon above,
In the shadows, sadly stumbling,
Banished from God’s stately love.

We are but a race of exiles,
Fumbling ever in the gloom,
Fractured in our fallen lifestyles,
Never gaining Christ’s sweet boon.

We are one, for one man ventured,
Into time, now tumbledown,
Not forgotten, but now censured,
By the God in thorny crown.

We can not escape our oneness,
Since we’re made from common stuff,
With the sky of heaven sunless,
We revolve in aeons rough.

Trying to recapture sunlight,
Buffeted in soulless breeze,
Cold together in this frostbite,
Icy white upon the trees.

Pride is written on our gravestone,
This the crime we cannot quit,
Nose against a bitter grindstone,
As a curse, by holy writ.

Ever wry dilapidation,
After heaven’s mad demise,
Languishing anticipation,
Under blackened, frowning skies.

Christ and Satan one in Adam,
Vying for an upper hand,
Christ as Lord our common datum,
Though we shirk his sweet command.

Disobedience our poison,
Unleashed into tumult grand,
Visions of our violence noisome,
Spread in sickness on the land.

The king of kings was sent for saving,
Since we know not love in sooth,
Only ghosts in shadows craving,
Christ to heal our souls uncouth.

Painted in a shadow landscape,
Void of light, since shame prevails,
Hurt and crime our crazy dreamscape,
The symptoms that our crime entails.

Pale the moonlight in the cloudbreak,
Through tenebrous ruins cast,
Memories our only keepsake,
Walking to destruction vast…
