Where to from Nowhere?
Where do we go to from nowhere, this hell?
My senses bereft of directions,
Heaven’s pronouncement — a baleful death knell;
Such endlessly sombre reflections…
Incense stands burning, the smoke rises up,
A ritual farewell lament,
The chalice is empty of wine, a dry cup,
With every slim chance sadly spent.
Where do you aim when the goal posts are gone?
The game said and done, but you live?
Wandering lands where the bright sun once shone,
With no hope of heaven to give.
A vampire fate, till the ending of time,
Dead but alive, and stone cold,
Pleasure and pain in a mute sounding mime;
Unto damnation we’re sold.
We watch the stars falling away, one by one,
To chasms of unending gloom,
The race for salvation is over and done;
Iniquity there from the womb.
Born in depravity, born into death,
The sins of our fathers too grave,
Depleted to groaning and gasping for breath,
With Christ above helpless to save.
The path unto heaven, the pattern of God—
Lost in the curse of vainglory,
Onward to vacant Gehenna we plod,
The derelict end of our story.
Sins smothered o’er the body of Christ,
Shame the indictment in view,
A long fallen race that the heavens enticed,
But the person of God we eschew!
The king of kings tarries on high, past the moon,
Basking in pastures of stars,
But Adam’s old family, stricken so soon—
Lost in a body of scars.
Worshipping God our instruction, so clear,
Our mandate, our mission, our joy,
But now here we linger in compounding fear,
With hope a chimerical toy…
