Ode to Krishna

Ode to Krishna

Krishna and Radha, his consort, combined,
Walking together in love,
Powerful deities, closely entwined,
From Goloka, distant above.

A planet of maidens exquisitely fair,
With gardens of lotus and light,
Sun, moon and stars, set in orbiting care,
Jupiter, Mars shining bright.

You hold the secret of love unafraid,
Krishna — your being so pure!
Your body, the infinite cosmos displayed,
Your power and joy your allure.

Krishna, the cowherd, the cowherd divine,
Walking in starlight pristine,
Perfect your spirit, a manifold shrine,
Peacocks in purple and green.

Radha and Krishna, two friends bound in love,
Their union brings excellent dreams,
Gopas that walk in the skies up above,
Adorned in a raiment of gleams.

Krishna belongs to the Yadava crew,
Rulers and warriors brave,
Radha descended from Vrishabhanu,
The ruler of their proud enclave.

Ābhīra the cult that would worship the cow,
A creature divine in its poise,
Residing in pastures, which daily they plow,
Mirthful gay music the noise.

Singing in pleasure through emerald vale,
Merriment always the law,
Krishna, you’re perfect in every detail,
Healing and hope you restore!

I promise to tether in your divine care,
Affixing myself to your might,
Show me the light of the wisdom you share,
Carry me out of this night!

Radha and Krishna forever ablaze!
Magnificent bright their estate,
Calming the violence of men with their ways,
Their presence is fair heaven’s gate!
