Dress me in Winter

Dress me in Winter

Dress me in the finery of winter—
Regal robes of pompous royal white,
Icicles, like jewels worn by a princess,
Every brand of brilliance in my sight…

Streets in slumber under snow drift blankets,
Lamp posts caked in ice and glinting pure,
Reverential coolness as I wander,
Winter — I succumb to your allure!

Dress me in the colours that you fancy,
Whites and greys and rustic tones of brown,
Trees bereft but hopeful through the season,
Crystal lakes in stillness for a crown!

Love me with your silence, formed at daybreak,
Everything so hushed, so peaceful dark,
Show me every prism glint of beauty,
As I walk the streets and frosty park.

Though you would present a face of coldness,
I can fathom beauty in your heart,
Even though the sleet and wind is wicked,
Your faith burns true — this is the highest art!

Hold me in the wisdom of your sternness,
Blank as desert, but with outward shine,
Ensorcelled under every fair impression,
I am yours and worship at your shrine.

Winter, with the hills in snow capped glory,
Winter, you bring solace to my chest,
Walking in your labyrinthine beauty,
By your gentle touch I am caressed.

I want to know your grandeur as you know it,
A romance stoked by snow flake kisses soft,
Take me dreaming in your flights of fancy,
Lift me to the winter sun aloft…
