The Sphinx and the Chimera
The Sphinx and the Chimera,
Locked in play, in halo light,
Speaking in a Coptic tongue,
In amorous delight.
The bright Chimera’s flowing hair—
In twirls of sunset red,
The Sphinx disdaining to arise,
From out her stony bed.
Their minds an interlocking dream,
In telepathic bond,
Their visions wild and brightly styl’d;
Impressions from beyond…
The cataracts of Sumer’s past—
The histories and tribes,
Their brave, collective learning vast,
Related by their scribes.
The shores of time, in lapping waves,
That bubble into view—
Memories Atlantean,
In shades of spectral blue.
Rulers lost, but not forgot,
The Pharaohs standing true,
With gems and other diadems,
In multicoloured hue.
Lapis lazuli and gold,
Encasing treasures bright,
Mysteries and curses scrawled,
On mummies woven tight.
Stars above the fertile land,
Spread wide, in sleek array,
Flowing streams through landscapes green,
Enraptured, puissant day!
Love in fullness, gloating huge—
By divine forces sent,
Every brand of pleasure raised,
A precious ornament.
Tribes along the Nile in droves,
Perusing rivers gold,
And nights, so bright, the moon alight,
In crystal darkness cold.
Old myths of yore, and gods before—
A pre-Adamic vista,
Seth and Nephthys wed just like,
Osiris and his sister.
Emanating psychic waves,
In beauteous display,
Arising like a cleansing tide,
That washes pain away.
Prodigious strong and gladly felt,
Two sisters locked in thought,
The spiral wind of hidden time,
So reverently caught.
A golden gush, a rosy rush,
To see what was before,
The wisdom of a thousand years,
Swept up, a timeless store.
The Sphinx and the Chimera,
In a fire twirling bliss;
We love the light with all our might—
The rays of the abyss!
Come wend your way with us in joy,
And fathom all our rapture,
Our journey can be stalled by none!
The distance we recapture.
Pray set thyself in reverence,
And laugh with us anon,
And meld with us into a dream,
In which we know we’re one…
