Prodigious Dark
Prodigious dark — in Christless desert wan’dring,
The children’s bones stacked up to heaven’s door,
The Gaza strip, a sea of bodies flound’ring,
The dogs of war ensnarled by tooth and claw,
The wealthy stay aloof in Mammon’s keeping,
The government in business coldness set,
The moneyless, adrift and softly weeping,
A world ensnared and safe in Satan’s net,
Who would to heaven reach with heart in earnest?
The panoply of pain so dreadful strong,
A saviour sent to quell the flames that burnest,
A saviour to redeem the fallen throng,
Embossed upon my mind, a Remphan evil,
Masquerading as the Jewish seal,
Geometry malefic and primeval,
The hallowed house of God — a hellish meal,
The shard that sat in Adam now asunder,
Rent into a dark abyssic shaft,
Souls in spirals duly going under,
Heaven’s desolation, fore and aft,
Nauseating dirges and revulsion,
Hell enraged and weighted down with lead,
Resentment now the means of our propulsion,
Unto the silent waters of the dead,
A cinematic, doleful, tragic ending,
Sealing us in waves that lap the damned,
An ever sinking road and fate unbending,
Accepting Christ? A pointless, wry demand.
