A Chapel of Sea Water Green
The queen of undines, Ursula,
Was longing for a lover,
Dreaming of romantic bliss,
Below the bedsheet cover—
She told her merry mermaid clique,
To search by rock and wave,
To put a suitor in her grasp,
Within her seaside cave,
The undines of the rolling sea,
Went forth into the never,
Along the bay, by night and day,
In rigorous endeavour,
The fishes of the boundless blue,
Were urgently advised,
And told to make their own attempts,
Or duly be chastised,
They scoured the reef and sandy beach,
Desirous for new company—
Hark! Who will win our precious queen,
And make a presence husbandly?
Three weeks of searching through the seas,
Through darkened trench and coral,
Elicited a dragon lord,
Immense and fiercely moral,
My name is Arthur Anthropod,
The dragon king of Crete,
And I would like to swim with you,
And see your queen, to greet!
So flapping energetically,
Along the bay, by twilight gloam,
The undines drew the king in hope,
Returning to their seaside home,
Behold, fair queen, a dragon king,
So muscular and green!
We found him by Cape Sideros,
In murky depths unseen,
They gazed upon each other then,
In wonderment and awe,
Embracing one another,
On the fair Aegean shore,
With overarching starlit worlds,
Rotating overhead,
They clasped each other, arm in arm,
And sidled off to bed,
The undines of the rocks made song,
In gleeful jubilation,
Playing lute and merry flute,
In loving protestation,
With morning air and crabsong fair,
The couple crept from out the cave,
And greeted every undine maid,
With gushing smile and kindly wave,
We’ll wed upon the morrow, friends,
Below the gorgeous moon above,
And I will place a golden ring,
Upon the finger of my love!
Throwing up confetti splash,
With merriment abounding,
The pristine wedding table set,
With undine cheers resounding,
The couple made their solemn vows,
And scaly king was knit to queen,
A ceremony built of waves—
A chapel of sea water green!
