Where Art Thou?

Where Art Thou?

Where art thou God of Abraham,
The king of earth and sky?
Here we remain, with Adam’s pain,
And desolately cry…

The lamb, the worthy sacrifice,
Didst die upon the tree,
He bled upon the wooden cross,
At sombre Calvary,

An all atoning sacrifice,
Shouldst surely slake thy wrath?
But we remain in sure disdain,
Upon our earthly path,

The fires of hell are blazing bright,
The choir of heaven mute,
The land is dead in pangs of dread,
And sorely destitute!

The gospel glow a shadow show,
And devils hang from trees,
Murder, lust and stark distrust,
Do spread like a disease,

Israel is hot with hate,
And violent beyond measure,
The holy land, which You once loved,
Would only bring displeasure,

The stars that brought the wise men through,
The deserts without error,
Forlornly cry as I pass by,
Lamenting our strange terror,

Michael, yes, and Gabriel,
And Raphael in haste!
On bended knee, we need all three,
In this forsaken waste!

We worked for you with bitter sweat,
We toiled to make a way,
But now my heart is black as night,
And hope has quit the day,

Where art thou God of Jacob,
Aye, the light of Jesse’s line?
The pride of high mount Zion,
And the glowing temple shrine?

In our need we call to thee,
In paroxysmal prayers,
To fight the evil in our midst,
And brighten our affairs,

By every dew drop on the leaves!
By this triumphant tree!
By every bird that rides the sky,
Into eternity,

I prithee with a heart laid bare,
To quicken us to love,
And show Your mighty healing hand,
From heaven up above!
