Around the Flaming Embers

Around the Flaming Embers…

Shadowlands and riverbeds,
With light beams slicing through,
Ruby stacks of bottlebrush,
And heavens painted blue.

Promises of leafy growth,
And branches bearing fruit,
The timber tops of tables set,
The softly strumming lute…

Where are your kin, your friends, your love,
To join this merry making?
A smorgasbord of life and mirth,
Is ready for the taking!

Come set your lovely lips alight,
With happy conversation,
The sprights that chase the sun will race,
In buoyant jubilation!

Sing to the ghosts that walk the trees,
And mossy, shady places,
As every creature here and yon,
Is hallowed by God’s graces.

A feast, a feast is set in store,
For every breathing creature,
The students of the book that read,
The patient, learned teacher.

For every man and every son,
For every mom and daughter,
For every pauper on the road,
For all that would seek laughter.

Praise the white and wondrous clouds,
Aflame with heaven’s roaring,
The martin and the sparrow play,
In dainty daylight, soaring.

And here to greet the flocking crowd,
The souls from every corner,
The regal and almighty king,
With jesters and performers.

The leaping troop of acrobats,
The gaily singing choir,
The marching band in bright array,
Astride the booming crier…

“Hear ye, families and friends,
That love the stalwart king,
I charge you, fill your hearts with love,
And fill your lungs to sing.

We must awake the sylphs above,
The undines of the water,
The salamander in the fire,
And set the sow to slaughter.

A feast, a feast is set in store,
Around the flaming embers,
As we will light the night with joy,
So everyone remembers.

The king, our friend, our leader firm,
Our strength when we get weary,
Will know our breadth of love in truth,
So as to make him teary.

Aye, rouse the band, aye, shout and whoop,
Aye, tip the wine and beer,
As we create a festive scene,
Of monumental cheer…”
